Local vs Overseas Intensive Therapy
Which Program Is Right for You?
Both our Local Extended Care and Intensive Care programmes follow the same ScolioLife® Method. The clinical protocol is identical — the only real difference is how the care is scheduled and delivered. Neither format is a shortcut, and neither is a quick fix. The right choice depends on where you live, your curve, your goals, and how you are able to attend follow-up care.
Local Extended Care — for patients living in Malaysia
For patients based in Malaysia, care is spread over several months, usually 1–2 sessions per week across 3–6 months. This lets the programme fit around school, work, and everyday life without extended time away.
Progress is reviewed regularly by Dr Kevin Lau, and the programme is adjusted as the spine, posture, strength, and mobility respond over time. Because sessions are spaced out, patients have more time between visits to practise their exercises, adapt to the ScolioAlign® brace when prescribed, and gradually build the habits needed for long-term scoliosis management.
1–2 sessions per week over 3–6 months.
Fits around school and work — no extended time off needed.
Reviewed regularly by Dr Kevin Lau, with adjustments as you respond.
Gradual, closely supervised progress and habit-building over time.
Intensive Care — for patients travelling from overseas
For patients flying in from overseas, attending weekly sessions for several months is rarely practical. The Intensive Care Program therefore concentrates approximately 25 hours of scoliosis-specific care into 3–5 days.
Patients with curves under 20° typically attend for 3 days, while those with curves of 20° and above typically attend for 5 days, depending on the individual assessment and clinical needs. The goal is to make productive use of the limited time available in Kuala Lumpur while giving each patient a clear understanding of their scoliosis and how to manage it after returning home.
~25 hours of scoliosis-specific care concentrated into 3–5 days.
Under 20° → usually 3 days · 20° and above → usually 5 days.
Hands-on care plus full education so you can practise correctly at home.
A personalised home protocol to continue after you fly home.
Intensive Does Not Mean a Quick Fix
There are no quick fixes for scoliosis. Completing a 3–5 day Intensive Care Program does not mean the work ends when you fly home. The intensive phase is designed to create early momentum, teach the correct techniques, and establish a personalised long-term plan.
The real value of the Intensive Care Program is not simply the number of hours completed in Kuala Lumpur — it is the knowledge, skills, equipment, and personalised home protocol that you take home and continue to apply.
During the programme, patients learn:
Scoliosis-specific corrective exercises for their individual curve pattern.
How to perform their home therapy safely and correctly.
How to use the ScolioAlign® brace when prescribed.
Postural and movement strategies for daily life.
How to keep progressing after returning home.
What Happens After You Return Home?
Overseas patients continue their scoliosis care at home using the personalised programme developed during their time at ScolioLife®. Depending on the individual case, this may include:
Wearing the ScolioAlign® brace as prescribed.
Continuing daily scoliosis-specific home therapy.
Following a customised exercise and mobility programme.
Monitoring posture and physical changes.
Attending teleconsultations with the ScolioLife® team.
Returning for in-person reassessments when appropriate.
Follow-up is an important part of the process. The home programme may be refined as the patient grows, becomes stronger, improves technique, or experiences changes in their curve and posture.
Two Different Formats. One Long-Term Goal.
Local Extended Care provides gradual, closely monitored progress through regular weekly sessions. Intensive Care lets overseas patients complete a concentrated period of hands-on care and education before continuing independently at home.
Neither approach is a shortcut. Both require time, consistency, correct technique, and active participation.

The best format depends on where you live, your curve severity, age, flexibility, goals, and ability to attend follow-up care. After assessing your case, Dr Kevin Lau and the ScolioLife® team will recommend the most appropriate approach for your individual needs.
Individual responses vary. The aim is to improve spinal balance, posture, function, and long-term scoliosis management where possible. Results cannot be guaranteed.
