Gensingen Brace

So what exactly is this Gensingen brace and what makes it significant?

For a number of years, the most common form of treatment for scoliosis – the curvature of a person’s spine – has been the use one of a few, different braces; the Boston Brace, the Charleston Brace, the Milwaukee Brace, and the Wilmington Brace.

Each are supposed to be best suited for a particular function and it’s up to your doctor to choose the best option for your needs depending on your age, growth rate, the location and size of the curvature along your spine, as well as the cause of the condition. Is this an instance of neuromuscular scoliosis in which the condition was a result of some sort of muscle problem? Or is this idiopathic scoliosis? This may be the most commonly known form of the condition – being seen frequently amongst adolescents but having no real cause.

The problem with these braces lies in their overall inefficiency. Studies have shown that these other models simply do not contribute to any positive change in the trajectory of cases of scoliosis, most notably adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis moving through growth spurts during puberty. Even more disconcerting, many have even suggested that they may do little to even hinder the progression of scoliosis at all.

That’s why we are thrilled to introduce you to the Gensingen brace, the only mechanism of its kind that will not only halt the progression of, but further improve curvature of the spine.

What’s So Special About the Gensingen Brace?

The creator of the Gensingen brace Dr. Hans-Rudolf Weiss initially set out to design a more efficient solution, having recognized how short doctors were truly falling when it came to adequately serving patients with scoliosis, offering little to no means of real, long-term improvement.

Compressive corrections of spinal curvatures have been shown to be possible when the Chêneau principles of correction are applied through the Gensingen brace. This method allows for the maximum amount of in-brace correction and works by addressing the problem area from three dimensions – via the sagittal plane, frontal plane, and transverse plane.

How Is the Gensingen Brace Different from Other Braces?

Well, unlike so-called “hard” braces which attempt to halt the progression of scoliosis by essentially immobilizing the patient, the Gensingen Brace works towards improving and ultimately correcting scoliosis by guiding the body through corrective movement, the same corrective movement as applied within the Schroth method of physical rehabilitation.

This entails positioning the patient in a exaggeratedly corrected position that presents the direct opposite or mirror image of the patient’s spinal curvature abnormality. As a result, the brace is able to effectively reduce the scoliosis and realign the spine, in addition to reduce various other distortions in posture.

The other, older models merely applied pressure against visible humps along the patient’s figure in effort to prevent any further curvature in the spine, compressing the trunk and potentially resulting in pain or even difficulty with breathing down the road.

However, new developments in brace technology have shown doctors that there is a way to help their patients achieve the maximum correction possible. It’s also led to the construction of the most comfortable braces that have ever been available on the market.

The Evidence

A series of studies using the Gensingen brace revealed success rates exceeding 85%. Trials performed by Dr. Weiss comparing Chêneau-style braces to soft braces clearly demonstrated the superiority of hard braces to their soft counterparts, results which were later independently confirmed by another trial performed in Hong Kong.

Especially during a time as crucial as the pubertal growth spurt, it has been proven Chêneau-style, in-brace correction efforts have been demonstrated to promote the most progress in terms of correction any spinal abnormalities.

Not only are Gensingen braces able to halt the progression of any curves in the spine, most importantly, they are able to improve spinal and postural distortions and provide the safest treatment while doing so. That means many patients see their cases improve, as well as ultimately, their overall quality of health and life.

In Singapore, for example, most hospitals are still using the Boston brace, or even the SpineCor, despite their proven inefficiency. Even while the Boston brace may be able to provide some benefit, these models feature technology that is simply out-of-date and pales in comparison to the advanced design of the Gensingen.

How the Gensingen Brace is Made

Each Gensingen Brace is crafted using CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology to specifically accommodate each individual patient. The patient’s spine is scanned via precision imaging software. This unique software, developed by Dr. Weiss, allows for a fast, thorough 3D examination of the scoliosis-induced deformity. The clinical measurements are recorded and a perfect rendering of the scoliosis is produced. That information is then used to construct a custom-fitting brace.

My Own Guarantee

Having seen so many long-term studies that exposed just how inefficient the older braces were as far as stopping, much less correcting, the progression of scoliosis went, I’ve had my own doubts about the standard models in the past. But as a member of the medical community who is constantly striving to offer patients and readers the most advanced treatments for their scoliosis, I was intrigued by the impressive stats and discoveries coming out of the research being done on this revolutionary, new brace, and I jumped at the chance to put it to the test during trials with my own patients.

The results were incredible – even patients with curves exceeding 50 degrees experienced drastic corrections. In fact, treatment with a Chêneau-style brace guarantees to correct 100% of scoliosis cases while in the brace. That’s why I am so proud to be the sole trained distributor of this cutting-edge technology in Singapore.

Furthermore, I go the extra mile by taking care of all customization work for each individual brace myself, rather than ordering devices from manufacturers overseas who simply can’t provide the same level of personalization, because every patient deserves the highest quality of care.
