Case 133: Female 12 years old

Xrays-before-and-after-132
A 12-year-old girl, was referred to a scoliosis clinic with a diagnosis of idiopathic scoliosis. She had a family history of scoliosis. Her curve was already 45-degree curvature in her lower back spine with the surgeons recommending surgery already.

Diagnosis and Treatment:
After evaluating her condition, Dr Kevin Lau recommended non-surgical scoliosis correction, including the use of a ScolioAlign brace. The brace was designed to fit her specific spinal curvature, and she was instructed to wear it for up to 20 hours a day. She also underwent scoliosis-specific exercises and stretching to help with her condition.

Progress:
Over the past year, she has shown significant progress. The ScolioAlign brace helped to correct her spinal curvature, and her scoliosis stabilised, even though she went through growth spurts during this period. Visually, her back looks more balanced, and her body is no longer leaning to the left. She has also shown an improvement in her posture, and her pain has significantly reduced. She is now only required to wear the ScolioAlign brace for 14 hours a day.

Conclusion:
Her successful scoliosis correction is an excellent example of how non-surgical treatments such as ScolioAlign braces and scoliosis-specific exercises can be effective in stabilising scoliosis, even in growing children. With proper treatment and management, patients with scoliosis can live active and healthy lives, and prevent the condition from worsening over time.
