What is scoliosis?
Scoliosis is a medical condition in which a person’s spine has a sideways curve. The spine may curve to the left or right, and in some cases it may have an S- or C-shaped curve. This condition can cause the person’s shoulders or hips to appear uneven, and it can also cause discomfort or pain. It is most commonly diagnosed in children and adolescents, but it can also affect adults. Scoliosis is usually treated with a combination of exercises and bracing, but in severe cases, surgery may be necessary.
Can scoliosis be treated without surgery?
With ScolioLife™, scoliosis can be treated non-surgically using it holistic approach to scoliosis. In many cases, scoliosis can be treated without surgery. The treatment plan will depend on the severity of the curvature of the spine and the age of the person with scoliosis. For mild cases of scoliosis, a doctor may recommend a program of exercises to help improve posture and strengthen the muscles around the spine. In some cases, a brace may be used to help straighten the spine and prevent the curve from getting worse.
Can scoliosis be treated without surgery?
An Scoliometer measures distortions of the torso. The patient is asked to bend over, with arms dangling and palms pressed together, until a curve can be observed in the thoracic area (the upper back). The Scoliometer is placed on the back and used to measure the apex (the highest point) of the curve. The patient is then asked to continue bending until the curve in the lower back can be seen; the apex of this curve is then measured.
What does ScolioLife™ method involve?
ScolioLife™ begins with a series of specialized x-rays that expose patients to significantly less radiation than a traditional x-ray exam. These images are then used to measure the alignment in all three dimensions, along with the severity of your scoliosis and your age. Based on these findings, we can customize your treatment plan and therapy.
Treatment involves spinal stretching exercises, gentle traction exercises, static and ambulatory decompression, shockwave therapy, vibration therapy, spinal mobilization therapies, precision chiropractic adjustments, scoliosis-specific nutritional advice, scoliosis-specific exercises, whole-body vibration therapy, and body balancing exercises. One treatment session may last between 45 to 60 minutes.
How is ScolioLife™ method different from traditional chiropractic?
Chiropractors typically focus on adjusting or manipulating the spine, which is effective for relieving pain and imbalances in the body, but not for straightening scoliosis.
The ScolioLife™ Scoliosis Treatment Protocols were developed by Dr Kevin Lau and uses various treatment methods specially created for scoliosis. By using our own unique combination of methods, we can offer patients an unrivalled level of treatment success that is not available elsewhere
All of the applied adjustments, therapies and ScolioAlign™™ 3D brace are then based around these three-dimensional measurements so each patient receives care that is appropriate and specific to their spine. ScolioLife™ doctors also use specialized equipment and therapies to treat scoliosis.
Is ScolioLife™ method painful?
Some people may experience mild discomfort during or after a ScolioLife™method, but ScolioLife™ treatment is generally not considered to be a painful form of therapy. The amount of discomfort a person may experience will depend on the specific technique being used and the person’s individual pain tolerance. Dr Kevin Lauis trained to use gentle techniques and to adjust the treatment to each person’s comfort level. If a person is concerned about discomfort during a chiropractic treatment, they should talk to their chiropractor about their concerns.
